GTA V will have a "Very big map".

In a recent interview for the January 2012 issue of Game Informer (picture/scans of magazine below), Dan Houser, the Co-founder and current President of Creativity at Rockstar Games, was asked the following:

Question: You just released the GTA V trailer. Can you talk about that project in any respect? Obviously, it looks like its going back to San Andreas.

Dan Houser: I've got to be real careful here, or they will drag me through the office and whip me with barbwire. I will stick to exactly what's in the press release. It's Los Santos and the surrounding country side - and a very big map.

Although the release statement of the first trailer already stated that GTA V would be Rockstar's 'largest' game, it didn't specifically refer to the map. However, given this interview, we can now confirm that GTA V's map will be bigger than the size of the San Andreas' map, and predicted to be 1.5x larger.
In saying it will be a "very big map", we can assume that a big map in GTA standards is the GTA San Andreas map. So a map that's very big would then be even larger than that.

Although not huge news yet, it does put aside the concerns for map size and diversity. Now we know the map will be massive, and yet contain much diversity with mountains, beaches, farms and forests, which lacked in the past GTA IV map. This should easily be the best map Rockstar has ever created.
